Did you know that God’s will for your life is excellence? There’s a cool scripture in Psalms that
says, “O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth, You who set Your glory
above the Heavens!” God’s name describes His nature, His character, His being. When He
says His name is excellent, He’s telling that His character, nature, being and everything about
Him are excellent—and that is His desire for us.
Mediocrity is a curse that causes people, families and businesses to exist far below their
potential. Only through excellence do we reach the top of our abilities. Because mediocrity is
normal, and so much easier to obtain, we must fight for excellence. It must be a drive and a
passion that gets us up earlier, causes us to stay longer, and motivates us to give more than is
required. We must all realize that “good” is the enemy of “best.” On the job, many people don’t
do their best; they do enough to get by. Some people think that it’s no use doing their best
because they get paid the same no matter what they do. The problem is that they do not
realize there is more to their pay than the check they receive. New opportunities to increase
and prosper come to those who are faithful over the little things. If you give your best when no
one is looking, you will soon be over much more.
We must start with where we are, use whatever we have and not settle for anything less than
excellence. You may not be there now, but you can be on your way. Fight for excellence in
everything:
Be excellent in your work.
Be excellent in your parenting.
Be excellent in your relationships and communication.
Be excellent in your home.
Be excellent in your dress.
Be an excellent person!
